The endocrine system is primarily composed of glands that produce chemical messengers called hormones. Glands of the endocrine system include the pituitary gland, the thyroid gland, the parathyroid glands, the thymus, and the adrenal glands.

- Endocrine glands are ductless glands and they help to secrete many hormones and directly pass into the bloodstream.
- Some glands are exocrine as well as endocrine glands. Like- Pancreas.
- The pancreas secretes insulin and glucagon as an endocrine gland while an exocrine gland secretes digestive enzymes.
- Endocrine glands also store and release hormones.
- The liver and kidneys, also secrete some hormones.
