The chemical reactions that require heat energy to initiate or to take place are endothermic reactions.

Ex:

CuSO⁴•5H²O -------> CuSO⁴ + 5 H²O

Endothermic reactions are those reactions that give out heat. For eg. the the decomposition of caco³ (limestone) takes in heat to produce cao (quick lime ) and co2.
