Definition - Epithelial tissues are thin tissues that cover all the exposed surfaces of the body. They form the external skin, the inner lining of the mouth, digestive tract, secretory glands, the lining of hollow parts of every organ such as the heart, lungs, eyes, ears, the urogenital tract, as well as the ventricular system of the brain and central canals of the spinal cord.

Alveolar cells and the blood vessels in the lungs are lined by simple squamous epithelium.
Simple squamous epithelium is a layer of thin, flat cells which have large surface area exposedon one side and the basement membrane on the other side. Cells are large and elliptical.  Main functions of these cells are filtration and diffusion.  Molecules of O2 and CO2 can diffuse freely across these cells with a criterion of concentration gradients.

epithelial tissue always grows on some other type of tossue .
It is characterized by following properties-
1)cells are present end to end with or without negligible intercellular spaces.
2)no direct blood supply to this tissue
3)non-nervous tissue
4)the cell tissues may be flatterened, cuboidalor coloumnar in shape.
4) these cells may be present in single layer or many layers .
5) it covers all the organs and lines the cavities of hollow organs like stomach.

Squamous epithelium is found in the lining of the blood vessels.

Hope it helps u!!
