The main kind of animal tissues are as follow

  • Epithelial tissue
  • Connective tissue
  • Muscle tissue
  • Neural tissue

Here , we will only elaborate epithelial tissue

\sf{\huge{\underline{\blue{\mathbb{ Epithelial \: Tissue }}}}}

  • Epithelial tissue is a thin protective sheet of cells .

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

\sf{\blue{Location}} - It covers the surface of the body and lines the various body cavities and internal organs , including the blood vessel . Example :- The outermost layer of skin and the lining surfaces of the mouth , nose , lungs , stomach etc .

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

\sf{\blue{Shape}} - Epithelial cells may be flat , cuboidal or columnar in shape.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

\sf{\blue{Function}} - The epithelial tissue functions for protection ( as on skin ) , absorption , secretion ( as in intestine ) , sensory perception , etc . Its four structurally distinct categories are as follow :-

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

\sf{\red{\underline{Squamous \: epithelium }}} is composed of cells , which is thin , flat with prominent nuclei closely packed . Example :- found lining the mouth and nasal cavities , blood vessels amd lymph vessels .

The squamous epithelium protects the underlying parts from mechanical injury , germs , harmful chemical and drying up .

\sf{\red{\underline{Stratified \: epithelium }}} : Found in the skin and the cornea . It is composed of several layers ( strata ) of the same or different kinds of epithelial tissue .

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀\sf{\red{\underline{ Cuboidal \:Tissue }}} - is found in some parts of kidney tubules and in some glandular duct such as those of salivary glands , pancreatic duct .

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

\sf{\red{\underline{Columnar \: epithelium }}} - contains vertically arranged cylindrical or brick lile cells . These cells are usually tall in size . columnar epithelium is generally found in the inner linings of the stomach and intestines .

  • Ciliated columnar epithelium : At some places in the body , such as in the lining of the trachea ( wind pipe ) , the columnar epithelium have thread like protoplasmic projections called cilia , at there free ends. The cilia constantly keep lashing and move the material which enter these regions .

  • Glandular epithelium : ( also a kind of columnar epithelium ) contains some large cells which secret certain chemical substances . Such cells are common in the lining of the stomach and the intestine . At certain places in the body the glandular epithelium is folded inward to form compact , hollow or tubular glands , for example :- the sweat glands , tear glands or the liver .
