A  gerund is a verb in it present participle form which functions as a noun.
In simple words, a gerund is the noun form of a verb.

 It's easy identifying gerunds in sentence, just look out for verbs ending in -ing and you've your answer. 

For example, the gerund form of 'learn' is 'learning' . 

'He enjoys learning.'

Other examples - 

Swim - Swimming

'Let's go swimming.'

Read - Reading.

'I've got to do some reading for my assignment.' 


Also, for negative gerunds you can add 'not' before it. 

Example - Negative gerund of 'working' is 'not working' .

 'Not working out is going to affect your stamina.'
