factorization means that split the middle term into 2 term nd u split 3 term by the product of 3 term and 1 term .
for e.g.
x2 - 4x + 4 =0
x2 - 2x - 2x + 4
x ( x - 2) - 2 (x - 2)
(x -2 )(x -2) .

i am telling only about quardatic polynomial
Aastha ur definition is valid only for quadratic polynomial and that is not the definition its the process of finding the factors. try to think deeper as why ur definiton is incorrect.

what are factors ?
Factors are numbers which divides some another number without leaving any remainder.
example 6 has 3 and 2 as its factor
so 6 can be expressed as product of these 2 factors ie 6 = 3*2 + 0
where 0 is the remainder
similarly for a polynomial in x we find all the polynomial which divides the polynomial perfectly
ie their factors.
the process of writing polynomial as their factors is called factorisation.
So lets take an example
x²+5x+6=0
now we can write it as (x+2)(x+3)
where (x+2) and (x+3) are its factors.
thus x²+5x+6 =(x+2)(x+3)
