Answer - As a person grows up, he/she has many aspirations and desires for the future career. However, the career path that one takes or chooses depends on several factors.

Here are the topmost socio - economic factors that influence your study choices and future career.

A) Economic conditions  - The opportunity of building a good career keeps on reducing as one goes from financially rich to financially poor society. For example - The daughter of an ordinary bank  employee might consider some affordable options while the daughter of a rich businessman might become a businesswoman herself. With the cost of higher education going up even in national level government universities and more and more people moving abroad for education, even the willing parents might feel helpless in giving their ward best education and career opportunities.

B) Employment opportunities - The sector offering huge employment opportunities attracts a lot of people and students. For example, during the decade of 2000-2010, IT sector offered huge amount of jobs. Consequently, most students opted for computer sciences.

C) Gender - The career choices in this case are affected by the pre-defined life roles for a man and a woman. For example - A woman is expected to look into household chores and raise children and a man is expected to earn money. Such gender stereotypes puts burden on both the genders and often reduce the opportunities of education for a girl.

D) Culture - The culture of a local community or an extended family might impact career choices and decisions. Have you seen those advertisements, where Sharma ji’s son studies engineering and so other parents also force their wards to study engineering. Moreover, an Arts student is considered less intelligent and science student is considered more intelligent.

E) Religion - The career choices are affected by religion sometimes and this can be seen when most Hindus do not prefer to study meat processing and most Muslims do not go for careers in alcohol and women are not allowed to go for glamorous jobs like becoming a model.
