Rain-water falls on big mountains as well as upon plains. As the river bed is lower in level, all the rain-water flows to low lands and rivers. When the rainfall is heavy, rivers, streams and other channels cannot contain all the rain-water in their beds. Then the water overflows their banks. This called a flood.
Another cause of flood in the release of heavy amount of rolls of water from different dams and barrages during the rainy season, otherwise the banks may be broken down.
Results
As a result the mud huts are swept away. Trees and corpses are destroyed. Flood also washes away men cattle and everything.
Effects
The after effect of flood in India is also dreadful. Dreadful diseases like cholera, malaria, diarrhea, and fever spread out as an epidemic form. Govt. and other social organizations like Lions Club, Art of Living, Ramkrishna Mission, Aid India, etc. come out to rescue the flood affected people and provide them with food, clothes and medicine.
