Fossils are remains or impressions of ancient organisms - plants and creatures, preserved in the earth’s crust, especially on rocks. The study of Fossils is known as Palaeontology.

These days, scientists use various techniques to find out the age of Fossils.

The two most commonly used techniques are Radiometric dating, based on the known decay rate of radioactive isotopes and Relative dating, in which Fossils and rocks are placed in order from young to old, thereby determining their age.
