Aquifers in Texas

Explanation:

  • Aquifers are nothing but underground geological formations which contain layers of permeable rock or soil which either contains ground water or aids the conduction of ground water.
  • Although most Aquifers are good resources of high quality fresh water usually best suited for drinking purposes but not all aquifers necessarily contain fresh water.
  • Aquifers can be differentiated into several types such as confined, unconfined, saturated, unsaturated, porous, karst, isotropic, unisotropic etc. depending upon the characteristics of water table and geological formations. The branch of Hydro-geology deals with the study and analysis of aquifers.

The geological topography of Texas also houses many aquifers out of which the major aquifers are:-

  • Pecos valley
  • Seymour
  • Gulf coast
  • Trinity
  • Ogallala
  • Edwards
  • Hueco-Messila Bolsons
  • Edwards-Trinity
