Answer => Functional group is an atom or a group of atom, which is bonded to carbon chain and it defines the chemical property of the organic compound.

For example, OH is an alcohol, CHO is an aldehyde etc.

A functional group can be defined as an hetero atom or a covalent bond common to a family of organic compounds, which determines their physical and chemical properties.

All molecules containing similar functional group undergoes similar chemical reactions.

An example of a functional group is -  that is single bond which represents alkane group.

Another is -OH which is hydoxyl group
