Functional isomerism, an example of structuralisomerism, occurs substances have the same molecular formula but different functional groups.

Forexample, a molecular formula C3OH6 could be either propanal (an aldehyde) or propanone (a ketone).

nagaliyayash: Functional group isomerism Compounds having
the same molecular formula but different functional
groups are called functional group isomers and the
phenomenon is known as functional group
isomerism.

The isomers which have same molecular formula but different functional group are known as Funcitonal Isomer.

This means these type of compund belong to different homologous series.

Ex :- Alcahol and ethers.

Hope it helps
