GILLS

• Gills are the main respiratory organ in the organisms of the Class Pisces

• Gills are membranous structures present on the ventral and dorsal sides of the body

• They are covered by a covering called as Operculum

• Filaments called Gill Filaments are present which help in increasing in surface area for absorption of oxygen and increases the efficiency of gaseous exchange

• Flow of blood in fishes in unidirectional,thus during this flow the blood flows through the gills which in turn help the fish to respire
