Originally Answered: What is meant by good conductor of heat?

If we heat an object at one local spot and sense the rise in temperature at another spot in less time, we can say that the material of the object is a good conductor of heat.

For example, if you put one end of a metal spoon in a cup of very hot tea, you can soon sense the other end of the spoon getting heated up.

Many metals are good conductors of heat. Aluminium, copper, silver and gold are very good conductors of heat.

Glass and many ceramics (tea and coffee cups and mugs for example) are poor conductors of heat.
