Guru Nanak Dev Ji emphasised, "Truth is high but higher still is truthful living.'
Guru Nanak, the actions define your caste, not birth.
The Tenth Nanak, Guru Gobind Singh, unified the whole Sikh populace by giving surname Singh for males and Kaur for females.
Our Gurus promoted values of honesty and dedication towards the livelihood, but never prevented people from following their ambition or career choices.

Guru Nanak ji never supported caste system, his slogan ‘nako hindu na musalman’ justify this. A dog was allowed to walk near the wall of the house that belonged to Brahmin but a shudra is not allowed near his house.

But Guru Nanak introduced four measures to annihilate caste system from the society. Firstly, Langar (community kitchen). The main aim of this kitchen is to serve food for the needy and sick. In Gurudwars all people who belonged to different convictions can sit in the same row and they can have food. This ensured both Brahmin and shudra to sit beside equally and have food.

Next is the Sarovar (community baths). People discriminated even the wells between the Brahmins and shudras but in Gurudwaras all people can take bath in a common lake which is a step towards equality in the society. Thirdly is the seva (service) to the poor and needy and finally is the chant of Gurbani which is the Sikh literature.
