Substance that induces immune response when bound to carrier protein or large antigenic molecule is a Hapten.

Hapten is type of antigen which elicits production of antibodies when combined with another antigenic molecule as immunogen.

Once body has generated antibodies to hapten-carrier adduct where small-molecule hapten is able to bind to antibody but it will unot initiate an immune response and only hapten-carrier adduct do this.

Small-molecule hapten blocks immune response to hapten-carrier adduct by preventing adduct from binding antibody which is called "hapten inhibition."
