<b><u>Hormones are the chemical substances secreted by various glands in our body that help in chemical control and co-ordination of the body.</u></b>



<b><u>The site where hormones are secreted and where they show their effect might be different   . Hormones are directly secreted into the blood.</u></b>



Some of the glands that secret hormones are -

<b>Pituitary gland (Master gland) </b>

This gland is also known as Master gland because it controls the functioning of other glands. This gland controls various function out of which growth is the most important.

This gland secretes growth hormones.


<b>Adrenal gland - </b>

This gland is located on the upper of both the kidneys. This glands secretes Adrenaline hormone, also known as emergency hormone because it prepares the body for emergency situations by increasing the blood supply.


<b>Pancreas-</b>

This gland secretes the Insulin hormone that lowers the blood sugar level and prevents a person from diabetes.


<b>Ovary-</b>

This gland secretes two hormones named Progesterone and oestrogen which brings about the changes during pregnancy and puberty respectively in girls.


<b>Testis -</b>

This gland secretes Testosterone hormone that brings about the change in boys during puberty.
