Helen loved the creations of Shakespeare. She was a big fan of Shakespeare. She always loved reading Shakespeare's books. She began with Lamb’s ‘Tales from Shakespeare’. Though she read many plays written by Shakespeare, ‘Macbeth’ impressed her the most.”for a long time the ghost and witches pursued me even into Dreamland. I could see absolutely see the dagger and Lady Macbeth's little white hand- then dreadful stain was as real to me as to the grief stricken queens”, says Helen.

Helen read ‘King Lear’ soon after ‘Macbeth’ and she could never forget the feeling of Horrors when she came to the scene in which Gloucester's eyes are put out. Says Helen,”Anger seized me, my fingers refused to move. I sat rigid for one long moment the blood throbbing in my temples and all the hatred that a child can feel concentrate in my heart.” Helen liked Shakespeare's plays so much that she read them many times and she knew parts of them by heart. She started to study Shakespeare's work later on under professor Kittredge. Helen liked Shakespeare's songs and sonnets also. They had a meaning for her as fresh and wonderful as Shakespeare's dramas.
