A heterotroph is any living organism that obtains its energy from carbohydrates and other organic material. In simpler terms, heterotrophs are organisms that cannot produce their own food, therefore they eat other organisms that CAN produce theirown food. All animals and most bacteria and fungi are heterotrophic.

Organisms which do not have the capacity to make their own food is called Heterotrophic organisms. They obtain food from organisms which make their own food that is from plants.
