Two consecutive members of homologous series of aldehydes -

CH3-CHO and CH3-CH2-CHO.

I) physical properties of the compounds is determined by the length of the carbon chain.

II) chemical properties of the compounds is determined by the functional groups attached to the carbon chain eg- CHO , OH , COOH etc.
