Hot spots are places within the mantle where rocks melt to generate magma.The presence of hot spot is inferred by anomalous volcansim ( i.e. not at a plate boundary) , such as the Hawaiian volcanoes within the pacific plate.

Hot spots are those spots where the ground water comes in contact with the magma present in the earth which converts it into steam ;hence called as hotspots.
