What are Hot Spot of Biodiversity ? List out some of the names of Hot– Spots of Indian Biodiversity.

There total 4 hot spot in India.the Himalayas, the Western Ghats, the Indo-Burma region and the Sundaland (Includes Nicobar group of Islands).

¶¶¶ HOTSPOTS OF BIODIVERSITY:

Geographical distribution of Biodiversity is not uniform as some parts of the globe are very rich in species, Biological communities and Ecosystems whereas others are much poorer.

In 1998 Norman Myers, an Eminent British ecologists first proposed the concept of 'Biodiversity Hotspots'. These hotspots are selected in the basis of the number of threatened endemic species


A Hotspot can be defined as a geographical area rich in Biodiversity including a number of endemic plants, animals and at the same time losing the species and biological communities due to direct human impact and development.

Across the world, nearly 20 countries are identified as hotspots on the basis of 1500 plant species that are endemic to that area.

Two hotspots are found in India :
