The compounds made up by carbon and hydrogen only are called hydrocarbons.

Types of hydrocarbons

• Saturated hydrocarbons

       Those hydrocarbon in which the carbon atoms are connected

       by single bonds are called saturated hydrocarbons.

       Saturated  hydrocarbons are also called alkanes or paraffins.

• Unsaturated hydrocarbons

       Those hydrocarbons in which two carbon atoms in a molecule

       are joint by double or triple bonds are called unsaturated hydrocarbons e.g., alkenes.
