These are some important conditions for hybridisation .
¤ Only those orbitals which have approx. equal energies and belong to same atom or ion can under go hybridisation .
¤ Only the orbitals present in the valence shell of the atom are hybridised .
¤ Promotion of electron is not an essential condition prior to hybridisation .
¤ Its not neccessary wether half filled or fully filled orbital can participate in hybridisation .
¤ There are one large lobe and one small lobe representing overlapping and non - overlapping regions.

Answer:
Conditions for effective linear combination of atomic orbitals:
- The combining atomic orbitals should have same or nearly same energy
- The atomic orbitals should have the same symmetry about the molecular axis
- Only the orbitals present in the valence shell can undergo hybridization.
