Explanation:

Study of feminine sensibility and female psyche have become one of the domineering issues in post-colonial literature. Today, everybody talks about empowerment of women, equal opportunities for women and other issues related to women in general. Still in the second half of 20 th century and the first quarter of 21 st century, we have been observing the exploitation, humiliation, suppression and suffocation of women in Indian society. Vijay Tendulkar is the leading post-independence Marathi playwright. Tendulkar's plays have been translated into English and Indian languages. Tendulkar has created the new identity to Marathi theatre in particular and Indian theatre in general through his distinctive techniques and innovative theatrical methods. His plays reflect contemporary social, political, domestic and issues related to women. Feminine sensibility is one important aspect of the plays of Vijay Tendulkar. In the plays like Kamala, Silence! The Court is in Session, Sakharam Binder and Kanyadaan, Tendulkar has shown women as the victims and sufferers in so called patriarchal Indian society. Female psyche is the major subject matter of the present research study. For the present research study, two plays of Tendulkar i.e. Silence! The Court is in Session and Sakharam Binder have been selected. The female psyche is interpreted and analyzed through the study of characters like Miss. Leela Benare, Lakshmi and Champa in select plays of Tendulkar.
