1. Branch of economic or commercial activity concerned with the processing of raw materials and manufacture of goods in factories are called Industries.

2. A cottage industry is a small-scale, decentralized manufacturing business often operated out of a home rather than a purpose-built facility. They often focus on the production of labor-intensive goods but face a significant disadvantage when competing with factory-based manufacturers that mass-produce goods.

* Agro based industries :- Industries that have agricultural produce as raw materials are known as agro based industries.

* Mineral based industries :- These industries use minerals, both metallic and non metallic, as raw materials are based on ferrous and non ferrous metallurgical processes.

3. The factors that help to decide the location of an industries are :-

Raw materials.

Water Supply.

Energy.

Transport.

Labour. e.t.c.

* Large scale industries :- These industries require large infrastructure and large number of workers. These industries play a large role in industrialization.

* Small scale industries :- These industries are small industries managed mostly by private individuals.

4. Rapid industrialization provides support and strength to our agricultural base. Industries produce goods equipment required for the defense of the country.
