The hypothalamus produces severalhormones that inhibit the release ofhormones by the anterior lobe of the pituitary (adenohypophysis). They include MSH-inhibiting hormone(which inhibits melanocyte-stimulatinghormone), prolactin-inhibiting hormone, and somatostatin.
