What are Intensive properties?

The system which is not dependent to the quantity of matter are known as intensive properties.

Examples:- Boiling points, melting points, density, concentration, viscosity, Surface tension, pressure etc.

What are extensive properties?

In this type of system they are fully dependent upon the quantity of matter are called as extensive prope

Examples:- Mass, volume, moles, heat, work done etc.

Some special points:-

  • 1. Intensive property is the ratio of two indicated extensive properties.

  • 2. Even an extensive property can be transformed into the intensive property.

  • 3. Non-additive in nature in intensive type Properties on the other hand naturally extensive properties are additive.
