Question :-

➝What are intermolecular forces? How are these related to the three states of matter?

Answer :-

The force of attraction between the molecules is called the intermolecular force.

In solid state intermolecular force are very large as molecules are tightly packed .

In liquid state intermolecular force of attraction is less than solids as molecules are loosely packed or as intermolecular space in liquids are larger than in solids.

In gaseous state intermolecular forces are negligible as intermolecular space is a very very large as compared to solids and liquids.
