What are intermolecular forces? How add these related to the the three states of matter

it the the force between the particles of the matter. It can be related by that for example water it's intermolecular force is very less so it is present in liquid state , then take oxygen it's intermolecular force is very very less so it is present in gaseous state while take a wood it's intermolecular force is very large so it is present in solid state.
