These canals r taken out directly from the rivers without constructing any barrages or dam. Such canals use the excess water of rivers at the time of floods and remain operational during rainy season. As the beds of these canals r at the higher level than those of rivers,they get supply of water only when the river is flooded..
therefore it is of limited use....

Inundation canal are the canals that are linked to large Rivers.Means it starts it's journey from large rivers.This type of canals are taken directly out from rivers.This type of canals are usually used for irrigation.It receives water only when the rivers are flooded.So they can't provide water throughout the year.It is less useful in irrigation than perennial canals.As perennial canals can provide water throughout the year.
