Involuntary Muscles :

  • They are also known as Non-skeletal muscles

  • They are found in visceral organs

  • They don't have any transverse line, thus are also known as unstriated muscles.

  • Their contraction and relaxation can not be controlled by will, thus they are also called Involuntary Muscles.

  • Contractile fibres are found in cytoplasm.

  • The contractile fibre is called myofibril.

  • Autonomic nerves are connected to these muscles.

  • They are spindle shaped.

  • Their contraction period is much longer than any other muscle, but they remain contracted for a short period of time.

  • The cells are connected by gap-junction.
