The compounds formed by addition of charged paritcles as -vely charged anions and+vely charged cations are called as ionic compound. These compounds are formed by complete transfer of electrons and the bond found in these compounds are ionic in nature. These compounds are pure substances which are formed be a metal and a non-metal. They are conductor of electricity.

Ex:- 2Na + Cl2----> 2Na+Cl-=> 2NaCl (sodium chloride; a common salt.)

Molecular Compounds: They are also called as covalent compounds, as they are formed by sharing of electrons between the two atoms and the elements are held together by a covalent bonds. These, are the pure substances, formed by non-metals. It has a low melting point and can not conduct electricity without state.

Ex: 2C + O2---> 2CO ( Carbon monoxide)

➤Ionic compounds are compounds consisting of ions. Two-element compounds are usually ionic when one element is a metal and the other is a non-metal. Examples include: sodium chloride: NaCl, with Na+ and Cl- ions.

➤Molecular compounds are chemical compounds that take the form of discrete molecules. Examples include such familiar substances as water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) . These compounds are very different from ionic compounds like sodium chloride (NaCl).
