Ionic compounds are the compounds which are formed by transfer of electrons between metals and non-metals. In these compounds, ions of opposite charges are held together by electrostatic forces of attraction. The bond between the ions is known as ionic bond or electrovalent bond (as the force holding the ions together in a molecule is electrostatic). Examples include NaCl, NaF, MgO etc
