a compound composed of ions and held together by electrostatic forces are called ionic compounds
Example:
LiF , NaCl
they can conduct electricity in molten state because there ions are free and can move from p place to place however in the solid state as their ions are held in fixed position and cannot move so they don't conduct electricity in solid state

Answer:
This is because ionic compounds have a rigid structure because of which movement of ions are not possible , whereas in molten state the high forces of attraction between the ionic compound breaks up because of which free ions can carry charge..
