ionic compounds are made of metal and non metal.Ionic compounds are formed by ionic bonding which is done by exchange of electrons.

1.They are hard because of strong electrostatic force between opposite ions.

2.They have high melting point.

3.They are soluble in water and other polar solvents,non soluble in non-polar solvents.

4.They can conduct electricity only in molten state.
