Isotopes are defined as atoms of same element having the same atomic number, but different mass numbers. These atoms contain an equal number of protons and electrons, but a different number of neutrons.

Isotopes are the forms of an element which have same atomic number but different atomic mass numbers .

Examples:- Carbon is available in  2 forms one with atomic mass 12 and other with mass 14.

Hydrogen is available in 3 forms with atomic mass 1(protium) , 2(deutrium) , 3 (tritium).
