HEYA MATE, HERE IS UR ANSWER ______________________

Isotopes are the atoms of the same element which have same atomic number but different mass numbers.

The extra mass is gained because of more neutrons .

For example, For Carbon we have 2 isotopes---

Carbon -12
Carbon -14

The atomic number of both the atoms is same ie 6 but the mass number is different -12and 14.

In both these

Carbon -12 Has 6 protons and 6 neutrons.

Which gives

mass=6+6=12u

Carbon-14has 6 protons and 8 neutrons

Mass =6+8=14u
