The atoms of same element have same atomic number but different mass number are called as isotopes.....

ISOTOPES :

The isotopes are the element having same atomic number but different atomic mass number.

For example,

The isotopes of hydrogen are ,

Protium ,deuterium and tritium .

Here , the hydrogen have same atomic number 1, but different atomic mass number 1, 2, 3.


THE USES OF ISOTOPES :

1) The isotopes of Iodine is used for the treatment of goitre.

2)cobalt-60 is extensively employed as a radiation source to arrest the development of cancer

3)The isotopes of chlorineare used to study the toxicity of environmental pollutant and are usually supplied in the form of NaCl.
