Lichens are the organisms that are formed by the symbiotic relationship or association of the fungus and the green algae or cyanobacteria. They are slow-growing and typically forms a low crust-like or leaf-like branching growth on rocks, walls, and trees.

lichen is the symbiotic association between fungus and algae

lichen may resemble a single plant like organism but it is really a colony of algae embedded in a matrix formed by filament of fungi
this partnership between algae and fungi benefits from the combination of two different methods of getting food for energy

the algea make food through photosynthesis while fungi absorb food and water from their environment

lichen can survive on rock or snow

lichen is slso indicator of pollution means lichen will not grow in the area where pollution is more
