the neutral molecules which has the capacity to donate lone pair of electrons are  known as ligands.
they are permanently attached to the central metal atom or transition metal ar ions by donating its lone pair of electrons in vacant orbitals of transition metal atoms or ions.

example - H2O, NH3 , CO , NO. etc..
