Fractions with the same denominators (bottom numbers) are called like fractions. For example: ... (iv) ²/₁₅, ¹⁷/₁₅, ³⁹/₁₅ and ¹¹⁵/₁₅ are like fractions with the same denominators (bottom numbers). UNLIKE FRACTIONS: Fractions with different denominators (bottom numbers) are called unlike fractions.

Answer:

Fractions say how many portions of number or any particular value of a whole. It is often called the part or segment or division of any quantity, in other words. It is denoted using the symbol / such as a/b. For example, the number at the top is the numerator in 2/4, whilst the number below is the denominator.

A fraction is a number which describes the equal parts of a whole. Suppose you have to divide a number into four pieces, then it’s expressed as x/4. So here, the fraction, x/4, determines 1/4th of number x.

Types of fractions

The fractions are classified into three types.

Proper fractions

A proper fraction is a fraction which numerator value is less than that of the denominator.

Examples:

⅗, 6/7, 8/9 and so on.

Improper fraction

An improper fraction has its numerator greater than the denominator.

Examples:

12/5, 9/2, 11/3, and so on.

Like fractions

When two fractions have the same denominator, then they are said to be like fractions.

Examples: 5/2 and 7/2

Unlike fractions

When two fractions have different denominators, then they are said to be unlike fractions.

Examples: 3/2 and 4/3.
