rutherford's model could not explain the stability of the atom this is because according to his model an atom consists of a heavy positivly charge nucleus in the centre and the electrons revolving around it however when a charged particle like electron is revolving around a central force like that of nucleus it loses energy continuously in the form of radiation does the orbit of the revolving electron will keep on becoming smaller and smaller following a spiral path and ultimately the electron should fall into the nucleus in other words we can see the atom should collapse however this actually does not happened and the atom is quite stable
