Linear equations are a combination of constants and variables. The standard form of a linear equation in one variable is represented as ax + b = 0 where, a ≠ 0 and x is the variable. ax + by + c = 0, where, a ≠ 0, b ≠ 0 , x and y are the variables.

Answer:

An equation of the form ax + by = c is called a linear equation. Here, x and y are variables, and a, b and c are constants. Examples of the linear equation are:

  • y = 4x - 3
  • 7y - 5x = 1
  • y = 2
