LONGITUDE:- THESE ARE THE IMAGINARY SEMI CIRCULAR LINE RUNNING FROM THE NORTH POLE TO THE SOUTH POLE IS CALLED LONGITUDE.
☆ THESE LINES ARE ALSO CALLED MERIDIANS OF LONGITUDE.
☆ UNLIKE LATITUDES, ALL LONGITUDES ARE OF EQUAL LENGTH. BECAUSE OF THEIR SIMILAR LENGTH, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO NUMBER THE LATITUDES. SO, ALL THE COUNTRIES DECIDED THAT THE COUNT SHOULD BEGIN FROM THE MERIDIAN WHICH PASSES THROUGH OLD ROYAL OBSERVATORY AT GREENWICH NEAR LONDON. THIS MERIDIAN IS CALLED PRIME MERIDIAN.
☆ LIKE THE EQUATOR, PRIME MERIDIAN'S VALUE IS ALSO ZERO DEGREE. IT DIVIDES THE EARTH INTO THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE AND THE EASTERN HEMISPHERE.
