Lubricant is a substance that reduces the friction between two objects tk reduce friction.
When two objects whose surface areas are rough in surface and due to the the roughness ,interlocking of these rough surfaces (i.e,the friction) produces heat which can gradually damage the object. Using lubricants can reduce the friction and thereby reduce heat.
