Micro means small

Nutrient means nourishment for the body.

So basically, a micronutrient is something that we as humans require in small amounts to function. These are vitamins (think A, C, E, D, B12, etc) and minerals (calcium, potassium, magnesium, etc) , typically measured in milligrams.

To understand this better, compare these to macronutrients (protein, fats, carbohydrates.) We need these in large amounts and these are typically measured in grams.
