=>To protect consumers from too much price fluctuation deu to crop failure or any other reason.
=>To maintain minimum buffer stock so that any unforseen situation can be met with this stock .
=>Preservation of food grains because no one other than the FCI has the ability or mandate to store and preserve such wast quantity of food grains .
=>To transport food grains from surplus production areas to deficit areas so that accessibility to the food can be ensured through out India.
