The waves which require medium for their propagation are called mechanical waves or elastic waves.

{\large{\green{Example}}}

☞Sound waves.

☞Waves in stretched string.

For the propagation of such a wave they use the property "inertia of mass" so that the transfer of enery or momentum takes place.

Mechanical waves are those waves which require a medium to travel. They obey the laws of classical physics.

Mechanical waves can be of two types :

Transverse Waves

Longitudinal Waves
