Description of Metalloids

Metalloids are the element which exhibit both Metallic as well as Non-metallic Characteristic.

In the modern Periodic table there is a Zigzag Line that separates metals from non metal.

The Borderline elements that are placed diagonally are metalloids elements. These metalloids are listed below :-

  • Boron
  • Silicon
  • Arsenic
  • Antimony
  • Tellurium
  • Germanium

Electropositive and Electronegative Characters

Electropositive character indicate the tendency of electron to lose them while electronegative character indicate the tendency to gain electron.

Along the given period (from left to right) : The nuclear pull on valence electron increases because of the increasing charges.

Hence Electropositive character increases on moving down in the given group while the Electronegative character decreases because of nuclear pull.

Hence Metal Characters decreases along with a given period (left to right) while Non-Metallic character increases.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
